BONEBRIDGE

An active bone conduction implant that sits completely under the skin, for conductive or mixed hearing loss and single-sided deafness.

Key features

  • Sits completely under the skin: no open wound and no daily skin care
  • Sends sound to the inner ear through the bone, bypassing the outer and middle ear
  • For conductive or mixed hearing loss and single-sided deafness
  • SAMBA 2 processor held by a magnet, easy to hide under hair
  • MRI at 1.5 Tesla without surgery, covered by MED-EL's lifelong MRI guarantee
  • Surgery usually takes about 1 hour
  • BCI 602 implant: Red Dot design award 2019

BONEBRIDGE is MED-EL’s active bone conduction implant. In conductive or mixed hearing loss, damage to the outer or middle ear stops sound from reaching the inner ear. BONEBRIDGE goes around that problem and delivers sound to the inner ear through the bone of the skull.

For single-sided deafness

When one ear does not hear, BONEBRIDGE picks up sound on the deaf side and sends it through the bone to the inner ear on the hearing side, so sounds from that side are no longer missed.

Nothing through the skin

Unlike bone-anchored hearing aids with an abutment, BONEBRIDGE is placed entirely under the skin. There is no open wound to care for, and the small SAMBA 2 processor is held over the implant by a magnet and can be hidden under hair.

What to expect

  • Assessment: hearing tests and a medical review confirm whether BONEBRIDGE suits you.
  • Surgery: usually about 1 hour under general anaesthesia. Most people are up and about the next day.
  • Activation: the processor is switched on and fitted a few weeks after surgery, once any swelling has settled.
