Implanted microphone picks up sound through the skin
Hearing 24 hours a day, including while sleeping, exercising and in water
Hearing continues while the implant is charging
Designed for severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss
CE marked
TICI UNICO is a new category of cochlear implant. Instead of an audio processor worn on the head, all of its components, including the microphone, are placed under the skin. Nothing is visible from the outside.
How it works
The implanted microphone picks up sound through the skin. The implant turns the sound into electrical signals and stimulates the cochlea, and the auditory nerve carries those signals to the brain, where they are heard as sound.
Sound around the clock
Because there is nothing to take off, users can hear while sleeping, exercising or swimming, and hearing carries on while the device is charging. MED-EL reports that clinical data so far point to hearing performance comparable to established cochlear implants.
Availability
MED-EL launched TICI UNICO in September 2026. It carries the CE mark and is being introduced in European markets first, alongside MED-EL’s existing cochlear implants rather than replacing them. Talk to our team about suitability and availability in Jordan.
